This plugin displays all attachments from the WordPress database in the Document Links admin panel, divided into four categories: PDF, Word Docs, ZIP archives and Other. Within the admin panel, you can select which documents you would like to appear, then configure the Document Links Widget and drag it into the sidebar.
You can place as many Document Links Widgets in the sidebar as you like which allows you to show different categories under different titles in the sidebar if you wis,h.
Requirements
You must be running WordPress version 2.8 or higher.
You must have a Widget-ready theme installed to use this plugin.
Instructions
This is a two-part plugin that requires you to define your settings in both
- The admin panel
- The Document Links widget control panel
General description: The Document Links Widget allows you to provide download links to your Media Library files within your sidebar. This can be used for sharing white papers, instructions manuals, presentations or just general file sharing. You must have a Widget-enabled theme installed to use this plugin.
File selection: In the admin panel is a list of all the files in your Media Library. Selecting or deselecting the files here gives you granular control over which files appear within each category. Use the Widget control panel to hide or show the categories.
File names: To change the title of a file, edit the file name in your Media Library.
Order: Display the results by upload date in ascending or descending order.
File link icons: Selecting the show icons checkbox automatically places file icons next to the document links.

Place the widget in your sidebar. Select the categories you want to show, and give the list a title. 
Optionally, use two or more document links widgets with different titles and categories.
Instalace
- Upload
rd-documentlinks-pluginfolder to the/wp-content/plugins/directory, or install the rd-documentlinks-plugin.zip file through the WordPress Dashboard plugin panel. - Activate the plugin through the ‚Plugins‘ menu in WordPress
- Navigate to the Document Links Administration panel. Select the documents you would like to appear in the Document Links administration panel and click update.
- Drag one or more Document Links widget(s) into the sidebar.
- In the Document Links widget control panel, select the categories of Documents you would like to show.

- Why aren’t my documents showing up in the sidebar?

Please check that you have placed the Document Links Widget in the sidebar, and that you have selected one or more categories to show up in the widget. Double-check that you have selected a category that contains documents. In other words, if you have selected „PDF“ in the widget, but don’t have any PDFs selected in the Admin Panel, no PDFs will appear in your sidebar.
- How do I change the title of a document?

To change a document title, find that document in the Media Library and edit the title there. Please note that this will change the title anywhere you are using the document, in your blog, pages, etc.
- I want people to be able to download images. Why aren’t my images showing up?

This plugin is configured specifically for written documents and zip archives. If you like, you can upload a .zip archive of your image(s).
- I would like to have a separate category for CAD/Excel/PowerPoint/AIFF

I’ve started with popular text document categories. If I get enough requests for a particular file type, I may add categories to future versions of the plugin. If you are handy with PHP, feel free to adapt the plugin code to fit your needs.
- When I chose to show the document icons, they aren’t aligned/look funny

Every effort has been made to have the icons appear correctly in most themes. However, themes are built in many different ways and you may be using one that is not compatible with the icons. Try a different theme or opt not to show the icons.
